Evolution is an organism’s response and adaptation to environmental stress. The change can come from several levels, globally due to fossil fuel consumption, deforestation, biological invasion and other direct/indirect human interactions with the environment. The change can also come from within, resulting in social and political progression, from the inception of an idea that brings about outward changes in appearance and behavior such as the legalization of gay marriage and the #MeToo movement. The unity of both inward and outward evolution takes form through fluid changes possible in each piece of the “Evolution of Being” series.

Each work is composed from identical components, inspired by “mitosis”, a process of replicating new cells. Flexible and mobile joints between individual parts provide many degrees of freedom for transformation, to express different modalities similar to the genetic variations found in the natural process of evolution.
